Part one: disassembly

Step 1: how to drain the oil in a vacuum pump.

1. Begin by removing the oil pouring plug to relieve the pressure in the vacuum pump.

2. The oil drain plug can now be removed, and the oil can be drained from the pump. A tray of at least 1.5L should be used to collect the oil.

Step 2: how to clean the oil tank of a vacuum pump.

  1. Begin by removing the oil sight glass using the 32mm spanner.
  2. Unscrew the bolts with a 5mm allen key to remove the front-end cover of the oil tank.
  3. Now remove the front-end cover of the oil tank.
  4. Unscrew the bolts using a 5mm allen key to remove the side cover of the oil tank.
  5. The spring can now be removed from the side cover.
  6.  Check the rigidity of the spring. If it is still intact, then it can be reused. If not, then it should be replaced.
  7. Next remove the poppet and lever assembly near the EMF.
  8. Now remove the clip-ORV over the diaphragm with a flat-headed screwdriver.
  9. Finally, the washer, diaphragm and the exhaust mist filter can be removed.

Part two: stator cleaning

This step is not mandatory. If the stator does not need to be cleaned, then skip to part four: oil tank assembly.

Step 1: how to remove a vacuum pump stator.

  1. Begin by unscrewing the bolts to remove the motor view port plate using a 4mm allen key.
  2. Remove the motor view port plate.
  3. Now the bolts and be unscrewed to remove the motor using a 5mm allen key.
  4. When removing the motor make sure that it stays in the same orientation as it would when in the vacuum pump. Stabilize and secure the motor in the correct position using wooden blocks.
  5. Now moving back to the vacuum pump, using a 13mm spanner unscrew the nuts holding the stator in place, to remove it.
  6. The stator can now be separated from the oil tank.
  7.  Lastly, remove the O-ring from the exhaust face groove of the oil tank.

Step 2: how to remove a vacuum pump inlet filter.

  1. Detach and remove the sintered filter using a 12mm spanner.
  2.  The sintered filter should now be cleaned with compressed air. Once clean, it can be reattached to the vacuum pump.
  3. Remove the spider. Once doing so, check the toughness and hardness of it. This can be done by pressing it with your hand or scratching the surface lightly. When doing this is the spider shows signs of damage or turns into powder, then it should be replaced.
  4. The inlet filter can now be removed.
  5.  Now unscrew the bolts holding the inlet flange is place. Once completed, remove both the inlet flange and the O-ring on the inlet face groove.
  6. Remove the inlet valve piston and the spring. Once again, check the rigidity of the spring. If it is still in good quality, it can be reused. If not, it should be replaced.

Step 3: how to remove the exhaust filter on a vacuum pump.

  1. Remove the exhaust valve screw and the washer using a 5mm allen key.
  2. Now remove the exhaust valve spring, support disk, exhaust valve spacer and the rubber washer.
  3.  Lastly, check the rigidity of the spring. If it’s still in good form, it can be reused. If not, then it should be replaced.

Step 4: how to clean the vacuum pump stator.

  1. To begin this step of the service, you need two wooden blocks with enough surface area at the top to safely support the stator. Once set up, place the stator on the wooden blocks so that the wooden blocks fit securely between the legs of the stator.
  2. When the stator is stable in this position, place an oil collection tray (of at least 1.5L) below the exhaust port of the stator and insert a funnel into the inlet port.
  3. Pour clean oil into the stator from the inlet port. While doing this, rotate the rotor shaft in an anti-clockwise direction from the motor flange side.
  4.  When clean oil with a color code of 1 starts coming from the exhaust port, stop pouring in the oil.
  5.  Now rotate the motor shaft to take excess oil out and to avoid oil spilling.
  6. The stator can now be taken off the wooden blocks and the oil tray disposed of.

Important Note

At this stage it is crucial to inspect all the disassembled parts and possible critical surfaces for any damage, scratches, or foreign material deposits. Make sure to clean parts with a lint-free cloth and available cleansing liquid before beginning this next process of assembly.

Part three: assembly

Step 1: how to assemble the stator of a vacuum pump.

  1. Begin by inserting the rubber washer, exhaust valve spacer, support disk and exhaust valve spring into the proper places on the vacuum pump.
  2. Next, the spring washer and the exhaust valve screw can be added.
  3. Tighten the exhaust valve screw using a 5mm allen key and a torque of 8Nm.
  4. Secure the inlet valve piston and spring on the boss of the pump cylinder back into place.
  5. Now lubricate the O-ring with vacuum grease.
  6. Assemble the inlet flange and O-ring on the inlet face groove so that the VACUUM text on it is facing towards the front side.
  7. Next tighten the screws with a 5mm allen key and a torque of 8Nm to secure the inlet flange in place.
  8. Clean the inlet filter with compressed air. Once completed, place the inlet filter into the mouth of the inlet flange.
  9. Now locate the spider in between the coupling jaws and fit it back into place.
  10. Now moving back to the oil tank, lubricate the O-ring with vacuum grease. Once complete, it can be inserted into the exhaust face groove.
  11. Now attach the stator back to the oil tank. Secure into place by tightening the bolts with a 13mm spanner and a torque of 17.5Nm.
  12. Rotate the pump 90 degrees so that it is back on its feet.
  13. Secure the motor back to the stator and tighten the screws with a 5mm allen key and a torque of 8Nm to keep in place.
  14. Lastly, the motor view port plate can be reattached by placing and tightening the screws back into place with a 4mm allen key and a torque of 5Nm.

Part four: oil tank assembly

This step is mandatory and should not be skipped.

Step 1: how to assemble the oil tank of a vacuum pump.

  1. Start by cleaning the oil tank with the cloth and available cleaning liquid.
  2. Mark a line on the oil mist filter face and the oil tank, passing through the boss.
  3. Now insert the filter housing into the oil tank side and place the diaphragm and washer on the oil tank.
  4. Lock the diaphragm by inserting the Clip-ORV into the groove.
  5. Next, add the level with the poppet, as well as the spring on the side cover.
  6. Lubricate the O-ring with grease and put it into place on the vacuum pump side cover.
  7.  The side cover can now be installed. Tighten the screws with a 5mm allen key and 8 Nm torque to keep it in place.
  8. Now lubricate the O-ring with vacuum grease and place it back into place on the front cover of the oil tank.
