Edwards opens extension to engineering and manufacturing facility in Clevedon, UK

    GLOBAL | 28 October 2024

Edwards, the leading supplier of vacuum and abatement services and solutions to the global semiconductor industry, last week celebrated the opening of a new extension to their engineering and manufacturing facility in Clevedon, UK. The Clevedon site is one of Edwards’ key production and research and development sites for abatement systems, and integrated vacuum and abatement systems (integrated systems) used in the global manufacture of semiconductors.

Semiconductor manufacturing is essential to supporting developments across the technology, artificial intelligence, electronics, automotive, scientific and healthcare sectors. Abatement systems are used to mitigate the potentially harmful and toxic gases generated during the semiconductor manufacturing process.

The new extension of over 2,500m2 will increase Clevedon’s research and development capability with extra laboratory and engineering areas. The new layout allows for streamlining and reorganization of the current production model to increase efficiencies. The new building also improves the facilities for employees, with extra office space, a modernised restaurant and more training facilities. Environmental sustainability was a key consideration in the construction of the new extension; the site incorporates solar panels, rainwater harvesting, air source heat pumps, LED light sensitive lighting, charging stations for electric vehicles and a seeded roof bicycle shelter.

Neil Mehta, General Manager of the Clevedon facility, commented, “I am delighted with the opening of the new facility which expands our research and development capability with laboratories and engineering areas. This will keep us at the forefront of the semiconductor abatement market and continue our journey in creating the factory of the future. It also helps us show our commitment to enhancing the working life of our people. This is another step for cementing Edwards’ position as a global leader in environmental solutions for the semiconductor industry.”
