CRAWLEY, WEST SUSSEX, UK. (05 May, 2015) — Edwards is showcasing its extensive experience in supplying mechanical vacuum systems for steel degassing at AISTech, May 4 – 7, 2015 in Cleveland, Ohio. Edwards’ expert Anke Teeuwsen will be presenting a technical paper, “RH Field experience with mechanical vacuum pump system”, prepared jointly with Chongqing Iron and Steel Company. The paper focusses on the world’s first installation of a mechanical vacuum pump system on an RH refining station in China, giving insights into the field experience of this system, the metallurgical results and cost savings.
Anke Teeuwsen, Global Market Sector Manager for Steel Degassing at Edwards commented, “We are proud to contribute to the ongoing successful production of steel at the refining station in China. In the four years since the installation of our mechanical vacuum pump system, 6 million tonnes of steel have been produced in a 24/7 operation, achieving reported cost savings of over 95% compared to using steam ejectors.”
Increasingly mechanical dry pumps are replacing traditional steam ejectors as the vacuum technology of choice. Lower running costs, higher pumping speeds, minimal maintenance and lower environmental impact all lend weight to the case for mechanical dry pumps. The savings in energy costs from using dry mechanical pumps are high compared to steam ejectors.
Edwards has the largest installed base of dry pumps in the global steel industry and is one of the most experienced suppliers in the market. Visitors to the Edwards’ booth at AISTech will be able to meet with application experts and discuss which pumps and systems offer the right solution for them.
AISTech, the Iron and Steel Technology Conference and Exposition features technologies from all over the world, providing a global perspective on the technology and engineering expertise necessary to power a sustainable steel industry.
