When F.D. Edwards began manufacturing vacuum equipment in 1939, he made a commitment to technical innovation that remains solidly at the heart of what we do today.
The legacy of over 70 years of innovation includes the development of the dry (oil-free) vacuum pump in the 1980s, arguably one of the most significant advances in vacuum technology in the 20th century, and still the de facto product for many applications.
Today, Edwards continues to consolidate its position as a global leader in vacuum and abatement technology. Products include magnetically levitated turbo pumps that operate at speed of up to 60,000 RPM, (that's a staggering 1,000 revolutions every second); next generation dry-screw pumps that provide low-power, intelligent pumping in industrial environments; and advanced abatement solutions capable of virtually eliminating hazardous emissions from semiconductor and flat panel manufacturing processes
One important way we do this is by working closely with our customers to understand their needs, and provide bespoke solutions that answer the specific challenges they face. And with silicon chip technology now relying on circuit dimensions that are 2,000 times thinner than the finest human hair, those challenges can be demanding.
It is a measure of the success of our ongoing multi-million pound investment in research and development that Edwards currently holds more than 1,400 live patents directly related to vacuum and abatement technology.
